A big welcome and hey-howdy-hey to my favorite farmers over at JW Farms, John & Colette. They raise cows, pigs, sheep and are now owners of a very lurverly herd of 20 Boer goats!
Now I think it might be a stretch to say that Miss Colette is happy about this recent purchase but she is a good woman and somehow didn't kill John when he brought home the new family members.
A little about J&C...
When I was around 13 years old John hired me to help pick peaches in his orchard. I was tickled pink because I would get to earn some money and, most importantly, there were more than a couple handsome fellas helping to do the picking. Looking back, John probably paid me more than I was worth but it was the beginning of a very special friendship between him and I.
Growing up in a small town and J&C being friends of my parents, I have seen and done a lot with them over the years. I remember being at the fair one year listening to a band play. I noticed John's foot was tapping away so I leaned over and asked if he would dance with me. After getting the approving nod from Colette, we spun we around the dance floor. He may be a country boy but he sure can dance!
Since returning to Hurricane and having my parents move away, J&C have kept tabs on me. John stops by or calls from time to time to give me updates on either his herd or mine and usually has a good story to tell. Colette keeps up with me on Facebook and I know that if I ever need anything, help is just a call away.
For Christmas this year I opened the door to find John standing there with a gift for me and the family. A new washer & dryer (towels!) and some hamburger and sausage from his farm to mine. Now it might not seem like much to you, but to me it meant an awful lot. In fact, I damn near cried and still get chocked up. To top it off I got a big, bone-crushing hug from the man himself.
Good friends are a rare thing. I am grateful and proud to have these two as mine.
